Special Educator at Adult Education in Umeå Municipality

The Adult Education in Umeå Municipality offers a wide range of courses for adults who want to complement their education, change careers, or develop personally and professionally.

We strive to create an inclusive and supportive learning environment for all our students and are now looking for a special educator who can contribute at the group level and through pedagogical guidance.

In the Adult Education House, a variety of professions and occupations are represented, welcoming all who study in adult education as well as citizens. Your placement will be at the learning center where your profession will involve moving between pedagogically planned activities at the group level with teachers and various development initiatives at both group and individual levels. We offer:

Your Responsibilities

As a special educator/special teacher with us, you will:

• Work on overarching planning to integrate special pedagogical perspectives throughout the educational operations.
• Guide and support teachers in adapting their teaching methods to meet the needs of students with different backgrounds.
• Develop and implement strategies to promote learning and inclusive learning environments. For example, drive professional development initiatives for pedagogical staff to strengthen their competence regarding adaptations and special pedagogical methods.
• Evaluate and improve educational processes and programs to ensure they are accessible and effective for all students.

About You

We are looking for someone who:

• Has a degree as a special educator, special teacher, or other relevant educational qualification.
• Has experience in providing special educational support and pedagogical guidance to adult students at both individual and group levels, tailored to various needs and conditions - regardless of study form.
• Has the ability to analyze, develop, and ensure the quality of educational processes at an overarching level and works systematically with continuous improvements.
• Is strategic and solution-oriented with an empathetic, professional, and relationship-building approach.
• Is a clear, confident, and inspiring communicator with the courage to lead, support, and develop pedagogical staff to create the best possible conditions for students to achieve their grade goals.
• Has a good ability to build trusting relationships, lead groups, and create structures that promote student learning and progression.
• Is a team player with excellent collaboration skills and thrives in cooperation with course and educational managers, other professionals within adult education, and external actors.
• Is flexible and adaptable in collaboration with other operations, authorities, and educational providers.
• Has good knowledge and is well acquainted with digital information technology and digital tools in educational contexts.
• Has excellent proficiency in Swedish, both spoken and written, as well as good knowledge of English.
